Well over a year on and finally poor old Red van is getting some attention, we went out to change the GTS wheels for Cragers, so the GTS rims can be soda blasted, then painted.

Beaver done, and the quarters being sanded as their were a couple of minor dents...next filling in Windows

You will never know it had windows, and if anyone asks the side braces are out of a sandman so still a complete sandman..

Did he butt weld or overlap on the inside?

    Looks very neat!

He Butt welded outside only - for Mauser and anyone else who is interested

firstly he straightening edges of existing window openings, because they were not at all straight from factory...he then cut his pieces of steel using a template and made them about 2mm bigger all around. He then spot welded four lugs on the inside, 2 on the bottom, and 2 on the sides near the top, and kept working on the in fill pieces of steel until they perfectly fitted the whole, by sitting them on the bottom edge and folding into place. when they fitted perfectly he then spotted them at approx. 6inch centres, spotted at approx. 3inch centres, spotted about 1inch centres, then welded them continually around. After welding he de stressed the welds, shrunk high spots as required, thin skim of bog as required, sanded, now undercoat and he needs to sand this undercoat....of course he did put a slight curve in the metal panels, before he started. Before he started, the original piece of metal between the two windows, was bowed out more than needed, so he put a horizontal cut between teh two windows, brought the two flat edges back together and welded this join up.

Hope this helps Rodney via Jennie

Looks great! just wondering what the lugs were for? are they welded to the inside of the new panel to hold it in place to the inside of the van? how much had to be folded to get a nice fit?

    Cheers

Lugs were just to make sure the infill panel didn't fall through whilst making the correct size for opening. there needed to be a slight curve put into the panel to match the curve of the sides.
