I am no expert but that plate looks tampered with. There seems to be a reverse pressed block around the main numbers and the whole plate looks very thin because it's been rubbed back.
In regards to the plate looking thin thats because I rubbed it back with metal polish and steel wool as it was covered in overspray which you can still see around some of the lettering due to the fact when I first took a photo of it the lettering was hard to distinguish so gave it clean.
Wondering what is a fairy price to pay for a set of gts rims for my HJ. I have see a few on ebay starting around $400 without caps dress rims etc. Know a guy who has a set complete for $800 but I am yet to see any coloured photos of them. Would it be cheaper to do an old set up or buy some reproduction ones. I also saw some on ebay this week which were chrome with black and they looked pretty hot and looking at a magazine today on A9X's I noticed two cars that featured in the mag also had the black on chrome gts rims. Were these an option or something done after market??
I had a link to Armidale Auto Parts who used to import the rims in either chrome or painted finish, but he has taken the pics off his page:(
But this bloke does them.

best to shop around....also try rocket industies as they sell new wheel vintique wheels..
Gday hj308.
The price would vary dramatically based on the condition. As far as restoration, I can give you some advise...
The price of copper has gone up considerably in Australia the last couple of years therefore the price of electroplating has also gone up quite a bit.
To get a professional restoration on a rim like this, your looking at ATLEAST $1000 per rim. Any cheaper and I'd be concerned about quality and finish. Then you add a tyre, wheel nuts, lock nut etc.....
Sure, bling bling looks great, but you have to be prepared to pay for the result.
Another thing to concider is that brightwork also needs regular maintence. You have to ask yourself If you can allow the time weekly for the up keep.
Hope that helps.
Original GTS rims are not chromed, they are painted steel rims. If you see chromed ones then someone has had them done aftermarket.
Expect to pay around $100ea for good restorable rims but if you're lucky you may get some cheaper, just check them for buckles and flogged out stud holes. You can then get them sandblasted and painted or do it yourself.
I have a plastic 200 litre drum with a screw on lid which is full of diluted Molasses, drop the rims into it for five or so days and they come out clean as a whistle. Saves me a fortune on sandblasting parts.
