It is not about the journey,It is the style we travel in!
Hey Kiwivan
Put the decent sounds in the glovebox, you will could regret cutting up the fascia later, but on the other hand, it is your van and you do as you like....maybe swap a dash and make some bucks, everyone wants an unmolested dash...PS my daughter is in NZ atm so I will get her to swing by and bring it home with her lol....
cheers

Yeah I though so too until I found out it is to late period wise for my van. I thought it would be good because I could listen to FM and keep original. But knowing now that its not correct and that it is worth money is kinda temping.
But by the same reasoning the market for this would be very narrow as how many sandmans and monaros were built in that period and would have owners that want to spend that much??
I'll give it some thought.........

Sell it! Put a blanking plate over the hole in the dash and put a decent stereo in the glove box. It would only drive you mad with no digital tuning.
My van is a 10/78 and you say they were only an option late 79-80.
I know thats being pedantic but the whole reason I got the radio was to keep original and still have an FM radio maybe playing through a hidden amp if the output quality was good enough.
Being not entirely correct tempts me to sell it, use that money else where and install a CD/MP3 player in the glove box.
I'm still not sure if I will or won't as yet.

keep the original in the dash and new one in the glove box - I agree.
But make sure you get a new one with remote control for when you are driving.
Sandmans didn't come with a radio, they were an optional extra. Who's to say the owner didn't decide a year or two later that he wanted a radio in his Sandman and went down to the local Holden dealership to have one fitted...... Would you like and AM/FM sir.....
If you don't need the money I'd fit it in your car...... won't be too many owners with a FM GMH radio so you have something a little different from the norm....
