Yeah there are other problems you can encounter when trying to make old lights brighter. I put relays on my high beam circuit and ran bigger wattage globes. No dramas you would think...... turns out that the standard wb headlight plug (and earlier ones will have the same drama) are not a good enough connection for the higher power draw. Because they are a loose fitting connection they create huge resistance which equals heat and the plugs melted. Relay or no relay the fittings will never be up to the extra power draw.
I only wanted to upgrade the low beam so when I dipped my lights they were slightly brighter than a candle. Driving lights fix high beam.
