Is that the one that has been doing the rounds for the last few months.. I nearly handed cash over for it only to realize it a repo...Guy i looked at it had been sold it as genuine as well....

well OZ may correct me if I get this wrong. But I think rare spares supplied some repro parts for GMH when they rand out of genuine GMH stock. GMH repacked them in GMH packages.

This one could simply be a rares repro (which I bet my left nut it is) packed by GMH in a GMH box.

So the seller may have no idea.

ok this is the other thing. Because GMH packed a repro part in a GMH box and gave it a part number does that make this repro facia Genuine Holden? Or repro?
I say repro. But others may not.

Other thing. I wonder if the part number on the box is the same as the original part number that GMH used when they made them themselves........

As rodney got a parts manual for xmas (bible) and is reading it now, I will get back to you on that...

Yes it is the original number in the parts catalogue, the fascia is type 5 sandman (9946774) part number M38280 which is the number quoted on the package on Ebay....so am guess that the dash which is for sale is either original or as Stickthis said, a repro sold in a GMH box...

In theory the early Rares made GTS fascia's were not repro..... GMH simply had a change of supplier.... I believe Rares got hold of the original HZ GTS fascia mould and continued to supply GMH with fascia's which were GMH boxed and part numbered so in essence are a genuine Holden part.

Typical of Rares however their attention to detail was lacking and the chrome border outline was left out .... over the years as the mould has worn the quality of the fascia's produced has declined.

The early Rares GMH boxed fascia is probably better quality than the ones produced today but I wouldn't be paying too much more then the current cost of a repro fascia for one of them.

I wonder if the idiot light lenses in the older ones are the same as the ones they produce today???

Greg will tell you similar stories about replacement panels for Holdens, ie Taiwanese panels in GMH boxes.

Corret. The warning lights. This is the big dead give away. Change them and add the chrome boarder and I wonder how they would look. Would be interesting to see how much shrinkage there is on the front where all the knobs and screw holes are on the back. Have a look at a repro facia and you will see what I mean. Im told they fixed this issue but dont know.

we have had a similar conversation on these fascias before...both absinth and stickthis have it right...and yes you would classify that as a new old stock gmh item but it would be one of the last to be in a gm branded box..
its not worth any more than one from over the counter at rares...
