After going through all the GTS fascia's I got and half of them being HZ ones I noticed some are a matt finish and some are a gloss black finish ..... so.... I did some digging and found out a few things.
The HZ Sandman ordering procedure lists the GTS dash as being a black chrome finish..... So..... HZ GTS and Sandman got the gloss looking fascia and the optioned sports fascia in Holden and Kingswood was the matt finish.
The dash fascias are all painted suede black with GTS and Sandman fascias being polished on the flat sections to give a black chrome finish to them. Kind of like Portland Grey on Monaro and Sandman in the HX range.
Jason, I have seen another GTS fascia with the pinned on RTS badge and it has the HZ style smaller printed idiot light lenses so it appears HX fascias weren't used up in early HZ.... pinned badges were used until the fascia mould was modified or a new one made.
4/75 HJ XX7 Sandman Panelvan ... Persian Sand currently restoring
7/76 HX Monaro 4dr 308 4sp... Absinth Yellow and rusty as hell.. SOLD
3/77 HX Sandman Panelvan ... Absinth Yellow and rusty as hell .. SOLD
hmm all above would make sence.
The NOS facia I have is dull on the surfaces around the gauges.
The original one in my HZ Sandman ute has gloss around the gauges etc....

that also explains why my original was gloss black and the one I bought was a duller matt finish.
good digging.

Greg, this fascia on Ebay at the moment is a repro by the looks of it but the owner states in the Q&A's that it has GM 7-1 stamped on the back??? Could it be an early repro that Rares were supplying to Holden?

or is it a holden genuine that holden were supplying to rares?...rare spares in the earlier days.. 80s 90s.. sold lots of genuine holden stuff..they sold it coz most dummies did not realise it was still available from holden..:knockout:
I remember when even at Wolfys in Newcastle in the 1990's they had brand new HQ, HJ, HX, HZ grilles of most styles even SL/E.
rares at sandgate had heaps of that stuff.....i know coz i bought lots of it..example would be ht wheel arch moulds by the 100s..for $1.67 each..no one wanted them so i bought them all..did the same a couple of years later at aap in sydney but had to pay $2.20 each...at one stage i had around 1300 wheel arch moulds..
Judging by the white printed idiot light and lack of chrome border I'd say it is a repro fascia and not genuine Holden......
