What do they currently use for rego? The engine number?

We've been over this again and again and again. There is more than enough information for any buyer etc. to draw their own conclusions. If it gets brought up you could just link this thread and tell people to draw their own conclusions and to speak to their local registration authority.
I drive a white van, with rather average paint, no blackouts or decals. But people still get a kick out of seeing it on the road as an every-day car and yell out 'hey, nice sandman!!' not 'hey, I don't think that's a real matching numbers sandman is it? Does it have the correct wingnuts on the batter tray because otherwise I'm not interested at all!!'
To me that smile on people's faces is what it's all about. Well, it's just a shame that the people that get a kick out of it are middle aged dudes... but you get that.

Yeah I understand you Goat, the when does a sandman not become a sandman thing can go on forever. People love to see the old car's being driven around, and that is all that matter's. We are starting to see more old car's up this way now, holdens.. fords.. valiant's, and its good to see them on the road.
Matching number's is not a big deal to me, as it tell's you not a lot about the vehicle. My brother in law is a panel beater who did his apprenticeship in the early 60's, his work is perfect and he has probably forgotten more than most of them know. He bought an XW GT Falcon off a friend who bought it new.
This car had been in an accident when only a few month's old, and was repaired, but not by his company. He bought the car when it six year's old and repaired it correctly. When it was finished the turret was the only original panel on the car. The motor gearbox and diff were all there, as was the interior, all else was replaced. That is a matching number's car.

My last post was in response to a forum member asking about rebody.
I keep it short and hard, so that anyone thinking about it.
Think long and hard, before going down that road.

Thank's to all the forum members for expanding on it, it's not as simple as we would like.
When I was looking for a Hq Sandman, I meet a another guy looking for one as well.
We both had different requirement.
He was looking for a numbers matching with document's and in original condition.
I was looking for xx7 on the body tag and the original rivet's, holding all the tags on.
Now it would not of matter if it had a F100 chassis and Datsun 180b engine.
I found what I was looking for.( I miss out on the above chassis and engine.)
I received a phone call, few months later and he had found what he was looking for.
My point is, Sandmans from the numbers matching to the rusty body in the chook shed.
Their is a right buyer for them all, as long as the seller is honest and prices it according.
When a buyer is happy, he is not looking for a lawyer.
they use the chassis/body number?? on the ADR tag and the engine number on old girls. newer commodores they use chassis/vin on the windscreen. i think they cant be assed trying to find the stamp on the rail, dont know where to look, cant make it out and dont want to get dirty trying!

Wow! What a can of worms that must create when WA cars are sold over to NSW, and vice-versa. The original as sold by GMH identity is with the number on the chassis in NSW not with whatever was originally on the body. What a minefield!

However I am simply amazed at the level of openness on this forum about people talking about re-shelling their vehicle.
When doing research into this very topic, I visited some ford forums looking for key words like "Removing tags" and "re-shell". They say things like "Do you think I will get in trouble if I remove my tags to paint my engine bay?" and "OMG! I did not realise it was that illegal to remove my tags. What should I do?".
On this forum its all about "swapping tags and chassis" or "What shell should I use?"
Any one considering buying a Sandman and using this site to research them would be put completely off the prospect due to the high number of fake "Original" sandmans being hobbled together. Ultimately devaluing all the Genuine Sandman's out there.
This concludes me to think that either, some people simply just don't give a shit about the law or they have a learning disability.
I'll keep this short, N.S.W R.T.A use the chassis number only to id a car, if the chassis matches the id tags on the car and tags id a sandman then its a sandman
