Hi All,
Just came across this thread, and noticed some comments about HQ GTS dashes and console lids and I felt I had to make a comment.
Over the years I have seen numerous restored and unrestored HQ's (and owned a few) and I am yet to see a 'chrome' finish facia or console lid that is original to the car.
The only 'chrome' finish ones I have seen are new reproductions, or where the finish has been worn away (especially console lids).
Even all the media from the day that I have seen shows the darker finish.
Back in the 80's I even deliberately removed the finish of one to reveal the silver finish beneath (thought it would look better) - so I'm sure others probably did the same. Prior to me doing this it was quite worn in places and did have the look that someone had painted over the 'chrome' finish - although thats just the way it looks when it wears.

I guess the question is why are people so convinced the 'chrome' is correct when all evidence suggests otherwise?

P.S. The HQ GTS below looks correct to me.

[Be wary of using restored cars to gauge what is correct for yours.... or even survivors for that matter as parts get changed over a 30 to 40 year period.

Take this restored HQ GTS Monaro also on Shannons......

It also has a black lid Kingswood console when it should be GTS chrome fishscale...

Does anyone have a 74 parts catalogue they can check on to see how many floor shift type 4 fascia styles are listed????[/QUOTE]
