What is the go with new car's.

Would anyone know why a lot of new 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder car's come fitted with twin exhaust's? It seem's the manufacturer's are fitting them as standard, VE commodore, Suzuki, Subaru, and most SUV's. If it is not a V8 why bother?

Also a lot has been made of the new supercharged GT falcon in ford land. People are saying it's the ant's pant's and HSV should be nervous. I fail to see why though, I recently read a test of the said vehicle against the equivalent GTS. Both car's had their fault's of course, but at the end of it all, the ford was about half a second quicker down the quarter. I can't see why anyone would be nervous. The test was carried out by RACQ.

A 2 barrell 253 was hardly a performance car but could still get the twin exhaust!

As much as I'm a commodore fantatic, I can't lie.... the supercharged ford is a damn good car.

Only way to make it go any good is to put a blower on it from factory.
Same goes for turbo's IMO.
Can't produce enough HP in the factory, so they put on a bolt on accessory to help it along.

I reckon it's purely for looks. It's not the 70's anymore where manufacturers can get away with running the same basic bodyshape for 10 years and still be a top seller. More manufacturers, more models, and people are more picky. If there are half a dozen different brands with a similar car with similar features at a similar price then a tiny little thing like a twin exhaust making a car look a bit beefier than it is may be enough to sway a buyer towards that model.

Same on the V8's. They used to have twin exhaust, now it's about twin exhaust with quad tips. Everyone wants to be bigger and better than the other guy. Makes you wonder when things will slow down a bit. Remember when the 215 KW commodore was the ducks guts? Whats this new Falcon hitting, nearly 400?
