    HX Sandman Details

    Here are some details that makes a HX Sandman.

    External
    • Headlight surrounds are black, not silver.
    • Single headlight, not twin.
    • Front grille has Holden Lion badge not GTS badge.
    • Front panels do not have fluted guards.
    • Side mirrors are Black, pointed mount type.
    • Windscreen surrounds are black body colour.
    • Tail light surrounds are chrome.
    • Door window frames are black outs.
    • Lower sills, guards, nose panel, rear quarters and beaver panel blacked out.
    • Sunroofs are not standard.



    Internal
    • Vinyl bucket seats Kingswood type, not cloth.
    • Silver GTS dash, not black.
    • HX Sandman has a seven digit speedo.
    • Door handles painted black.
    • Door sill scuff plates Chromed.
    • Recess section around tailgate window blacked out.
    • Front grill painted black.
    • Change windscreen surrounds to "windscreen stainless trim mouldings."
    • Mirrors are listed as "aerodynamic type" in parts catalogue.
    • HJ style console with lift up front lid was optional in auto Sandmans.
    • Kingswood style door trims with padded arm rest.

    • 18V Slate Black vinyl
    • 60A Chamois and black vinyl
    • 65A Sienna vinyl
    • 67V Tan vinyl

    Not according to the HX Sandman ordering proceedure, it lists black aerodynamic mirrors only. Don't rely on test vehicles in magazines as a guide to what was and was not available on Sandman's...... these are pre-production cars used by Holden for brochure pics and giving out to the various magazines for road testing.

    A lot of parts found on pre-production vehicles never made it on to regular production vehicles. Colour coded mirrors were GTS only on the HX range and are listed in the parts catalogue that way also.

    The ute in that article must have been a bitser rushed out the door for the magazine. They didnt even put the grip on the handbrake lever amongst other things.

    I guess I assumed between GTS's and this magazine article the colour coded mirrors were available on the Sandman too ... Oh well you learn something everyday hey ...
