    Tailgate skins

    Hi all,
I need to make a decision on my lower tail gate and am looking for some advice.
I have a Rare Spares one in a box and my original one with some dents but fairly decent shaped shell.
I really don't want to use the RS one because I weigh 80kg and want to sit on it some time and don't think it will hold me up.
The panel beater said the original is repairable but a new skin would be better.

Has anyone used stuff from this mob?....
    http://www.rustaproblem.com.au/holden.htm
Says all skins made from 1mm cold rolled panel steel.

    Can anyone suggest another source?

there stuff is very good but if the skin has a reverse curve in it originally his dont..or at least the last time i saw one they didnt..
this is generally not a problem with hq to wb lower tailgates as it is a very minor curve..
as for after market gates not taking someones sitting weight thats crap..im currently 95kg and i havent bent one yet from sitting on it,,
they will however bend when loading a motorbike in a ute...

Cheers for clearing that up ozbox.

    dent to tail gate

i've got about 8 dints on the inside of the tail gate already from kneeling on it to get in and out whilst i was putting the ceiling lining in etc ,Iam going have to fix a board sheet or flat plate to the inside of the tail gate and cover it with auto carpet RB

Is it possible to pull the skin off a Rares tailgate and put it on a real one?

Ozbox, I was being a bit of a smart ass when I made that comment. My daughters HZ ute had one and after a B+S it was almost a bannana. She reckoned that it was only from people sitting on it. Perhaps several people at once.

I stripped the remaining old bog that the bead blasters were to lazy to get out from the tailgate tonight and it doesn't look as bad as we thought. The beater is coming around Monday or Tuesday arvo so I'll get his opinion and if he still thinks a skin is better I'll get one from the "RustaProblem" guys. I definitely think an original one is far superior than the Repo one. Even if its ends up costing a little more than repo for a just the skin.

I actually had a little play with his "Easy Beat" tonight and pulled up lots of those little dings you get from the inside of the tailgate and filed it up. I will try to get some photos up soon.

Dont forget that the RS tailgate is for a ute. You have to cut and weld the top corners to make it fit a van.

but it has all the holes for a rubber which a ute originally never had..

How do you tell an aftermarket gate from the real deal?
I always thought my ute had an aftermarket gate. I was an 140kg man mountain when I had that on the road as a daily, always sat on it and it didn't get bent or dented.
