Why would there have been rubber bumpers on HQ then as the tailgate wouldn't fold right back down onto them with those type of hinges? RB

i was of the impression hq had 1 style and hj onwards had the other
FYI we should have brand new hinges available soon too
i trust the late/early theory fine, ill try and remember to write the descriptions like that too when they arrive
we will have both types
Greg, the HJ parts catalogue has early and late for the hoodlining colours and and some trim colours, this refers to early HJ as 74-75 models with late HJ being 76 models.... So my understanding is early HJ is up to end of Sept. 1975.
So... are you meaning by late HJ hinges as being end of 9-75 onwards or later in 76?
Oops, correction as per below....

Another example of where (I think) it is of paramount importance that your products are labelled and marketed 100% correctly. Making a perfect repro is 75% of the work. Labelling and marketing it properly is the rest, it'll pi$$ customers off just as much if the part doesn't fit despite it being perfect for the next series! This forum, GMH Torana etc and the people in them are your best friend for this.
Try sweeping the crap out of your HQ van or ute after you have emptied your rubbish at the local tip..... half of it ends up stuck between the body and tailgate and won't fall out when you shut it....
The longer hinges fixed the problem allowing rubbish to fall out rather then accumulating there....
