A 1980 HZ... the last Sandman van rolled off the line in October 1979.
That paint code you have supplied, I cannot find a reference to it in the HZ Sandman paint list. Maybe someone can enlighten us a bit better.
1189 is Spanish Red which is a 1969 HT colour so it is a rare colour on a HZ. 63C trim code is Buckskin which was not available on late base model HZ's unless it was a Sandman.
I would like to see pics of the 3 plates as it does appear to be a Sandman. We need to see the build date, GVW and if it is a two seater. I assume it has a full headlining.
More info and pics are needed to identify this van....

I can not find the paint code anywhere (10681), are you sure it is not 10981 (firethorn Red) which is a late HZ colour?
Very interesting van.
Has signs of plenty of modifications. WB rear lights, side skirting, no black door handles, but the doors look a different shade of red which may suggest they have been replaced. I noticed there is no GTS mirror on the 2nd picture as well, indictating bingle/new door. If it is in original paint??? it shows signs of Sandman with the blackouts.
All 3 tags please.
Paint code could have been mixed up easy enough
Handles are black there just shitty pics, and dad prefers the WB lights:errf: paint is really bad 20+ years as a work truck and never garaged, the mirrors were pilfered for the new work hack too
Black handles and some rear trim (and the new mule)
Cheers
Just of the top of my head....Going out on a limb...I thinks it is a Sandman.
But the plates will tell for sure.
Does he have the original purchase documentation as well?
Ian's right...
I had a blond moment and forgot about Firethorn Red. Holden re-named Spanish Red for the HZ and Commodore range and yes the paint code is 10981.
Guys, with the codes..... 1189 in the trim code is Holdens code for exterior trim colour (paint colour) Spanish Red in HT and Firethorn Red in HZ. The paint code of 568-10981 ..... 568 is the code for a solid colour (not metallic) and 10981 is the paint manufacturers code for Spanish Red/Firethorn Red (Dulux I believe).
The 1980 date code is fine on the VIN as the new year for Holden started at the end of September from memory.... so it can be stamped with a 10-79, 11-79 or 12-79 build date but is classed as a 1980 model and so stamped on the VIN. A lot of people get caught out on that one....
I'd be willing to bet money it is a Sandman.....

Yep, it's definately a Sandman. 2000kg GVW confirms it.... Will be a very nice van once restored with one of my favorite combinations.... 308 4 speed, Firethorn Red with Buckskin interior.... very nice... a set of DY6 decals will finish it...
