This is a pretty good site as it allows you to enter your tyre size and it lets you know which rim size is good for them:

Just looking at this old thread and I have a similar query.
I have 6 inch fronts with 65 / 215s on them and 8 inch backs with 60 / 235 combo.
Im thinking about getting the front rims redone to 7 inch and putting maybe 60 /225s... Would this be a good front wheel size? (I have power steering...) I cant remember what my other vans have had and ive sold them off so cant check..
So further to that.. Does anyone have a pair of 14 inch by 7inch GTS wheels for sale?
Cheers.
Hainzy,
7's and 8's with 225 on the front seems to be a popular combination from some of the cars i've looked at. 225's on the front with out power steer would definitely be a struggle but the power steer should be fine if every thing is how it should be geometry/alignment wise.
im running 205s on the front with 14x7 with armstrong steer and a 350 sitting on top..air at 38 makes it light enough but would take a muscular woman to drive it..
215s on 7s are about the biggest you want to go without the car tracking..anything larger ive always found to follow the grooves in the road and wear tyres.
I agree Oz, every one I have spoken to says it takes hours to mask them up so I think that is the best quote I am going to get. My existing ones gone done at a panel shop for $350 including blasting a couple of years ago and they are spot on but I think the bloke took pity on me and he did have a replica Valencia Sandman HZ ute in the driveway which is why I stopped in in the first place. It was like the cars were twins so I reckon I got a fantastic deal.
i have found the best combos to be:
14x6 = 215/65
14x7 = 225 /65
14x8 = 235 / 60 and 245 / 60 works well too..
15x10 = 295 / 60
