I think you are right Greg.
The 3/76 update HJ Production Option Availability Document shows D14 as part of XU3 (and XX7 is essentially the same). However the Special Packages section of the same document doesn't list the armrests. But, comparing the HJ release Ordering Procedure Special Packages section to the 3/76 document it looks like they didn't revise the Special Packages part as it is identical. So methinks I am right ie:
Early HJ Holden XX7 didn't have armrests unless optioned.
Later HJ Holden Sandman had D14 (armrests) as part of XU3 and XX7.
Now I have to find the revision of the features manual where it changed. By the revision history it appears to be either May 15th 1975, or October 15th 1975. Search continues....
(This is the sort of stuff holding up progression of the book).
that is interesting.. I have a 5/76 xx7 HJ it has arm rests when i got it it was in it original paint and the door looked to be the originals the paint all tied in.
was the dash change silver to black facia at the same time? I think that is in another thead somewhere.

As above, change appears to be in 1975 so a 1976 HJ Holden Sandman would have armrests as standard.
Fascia change will probably be a change to the base vehicle features, not to Sandman. So we'll have to look elsewhere for that.
