    If the earlier utes had the same cover as a WB then they had a David Jones style pattern on the underside. Just would be nice to get them the same as they had when new. Seems no different to having the correct door trims and headling etc. The tonneau is such a big part of a ute as well. Stands out heaps if its wrong.
    I dont know if I woukd be game to put it on though after spending a motza on paint!

    Those indivdual stretchy loops are a Ford XD/XF thing.

    GMH wouldn't have built them, they would have been done at an exterior cottage industry like most other soft trim and many other parts. So tarp suppliers and also materials put into those tarps may have changed between 11/71 and 12/85 when the W series utes were being manufactured. Note also that E93 Tonneau cover was standard with Kingswood non-Sandman only and optional on XX7/XU3 and Belmont/Holden so like today an aftermarket copy may well have been a lot cheaper than a GMH branded one, so unless a ute is a Kingswood it may be hard to claim any tonneau on one as an original "factory" item.

    I thought all Kingswoods came with it folded up on the passengers floor and sandmans would have been the same?
    So, has anyone ever seen a new old stock one for sale? There must be one some where? That blue one in the museum may be the only one about that is original to a Sandman or early Kingswood Jason?

    Surely Holden were having their tonneaus made to their specs? They would had to have been consistant if they had a part number? I am sure that there were aftermarket ones sold through dealers for people who wanted them but did not tick the box when they ordered base model utes.

    That's what I said, standard on HQ-WB Kingswood except Sandman. Optional on all others.

    Byron, is it possible or likely that each plant had their own local suppliers for these? I still have the tonneau from dads old HJ Kingswood ute and use it as a trailer cover, pretty sure it was the original one to the car but it doesn't have a patterned backing as others are saying it should.

    I don't recall our old WB Kingswood ute having a patterned backing on it's tonneau either.... both cars were Brisbane build I believe.

    Very possible local suppliers were used. It makes sense that they might as plenty of other stuff was local. Unless tonneaus were such low volume that they came from one place.

    I don't think you would have had a Brisbane built WB. I'm pretty sure these were all Elizabeth build as W sized vehicles finished before the end of HZ from Acacia Ridge.

    ive wrecked a lot of utes with tarps in the last 20 years and i cant recall 1 tarp that looked like a kilt...im sure i would have noticed it..???
