    Cheers mate.

I plan on a trip for 3 reasons to check this ute.

I want to pull off the tarp and measure etc etc. I have spoken to Chris the owner and he is happy to organise.

I want to stick some masking vinyl to the blackouts and trace them. So we can do a mask kit for them. I havent got the ok with Chris on this one yet.....

I want to inspect it so that when I do win the lotto I can buy it haha!

So I figured that was great,as they should have had them anyway being the top of the range ute.

Nowhere on my invoice is a tonneau cover mentioned, only sandman. The only extra listed are the mud flap's I ordered. So unless they were giving away free tonneau cover's I would assume what I was told at that time was correct.
Found it (for HZ at least)! HZ features manual says option E93 - "Lash on Tonneau Cover" is standard for HZ Sandman utility. Just shows you, I have 4 x different documents that show what comprises a HZ Sandman and all agree on what a HZ Sandman is. Now this is a 5th document and it states tonneau is standard. This combined with Robbo's experience makes me feel confident that at least for HZ that tonneau cover is standard with Sandman ute.

    Its all very interesting.

I have spoken to the person who will be making the tonneau covers. She is confident that it will not be a problem to get them as original. Ive just got to deside which one to use as a sample. As there seems to be a few different styles. But at the end of the day I guess people what them to be "period correct". As this is really the best we can do as it seems there where a few different suppliers over the years. Some had a join in the middle some didnt.

Hmm what one to use for repro.......

    Jason,

the original ones on my utes back in the day were one piece and that is how I would do them if doing new ones...... a seam in the middle is just another potential leak.

    Yes I tend to agree.

I have just spoken to a bloke with a WB ute. It only just had the original tyres taken off. Due to cracks etc. Not due to wear!

He has sent me heaps of pics of the cover. There is a join. I will post a pic soon. I think we will use this one as a pattern but maybe not put a join.

The join isnt dead in the middle. Its in the front half of the cover...

I reckon leave the join. Its how they were and they dont leak. You can slip down to supercheap and buy the wrong one already.

Can you find the correct material?

If you look at the photo of Robbo's ute on my website taken from the rear you can see a join about 12" in front of the centre support.
