    Sandman rims question

I realise that they had GTS rims as well as the N67 rim in HZ.
BUT was there any other option on rims from factory? (Honeycombs or standard hubcaps)

    HZ Production Option Availability

    N66.... Wheel - Rally type 6.0JJ x 14
    N67.... Wheel - Cast Alloy 6.0JJ x 14
    N71.... Wheel - Wire spoke 6.0JJ x 14
    PE1.... Wheel - Polycast (Honeycomb) 7.0JJ x 14
    PO6.... Wheel trim ring

Pretty sure Sandman being a special vehicle package was only available with N66 wheels until Dec 78 when they were changed to N67. I don't believe you could order them with the optional wheels.

PE1 was optional from the start of HJ (they were even displayed on the Sandman prototype Ewe't). I'll check and see if they were available on XX7 and XU3.

I'd imagine anything else (other then the GTS rim) would look odd on a Sandman from factory.

I thought I had a pic somewhere or the wire spoke wheels but can't seem to find it now... there was a set on Ebay a while ago and no one bid on them.... can't blame them... they would be a prick to clean...

Here is a pic of a Holden promotion HX van with the PE1 fitted..

That's a HX Kingswood, not a Sandman. See the badges, side strips and mirrors?

From what options info I have, you could only order PE1 on HJ sedan (Belmont, Kingswood, Premier and GTS) and I assume also on GTS and LS coupe. There was no optional wheel for HJ HOLDEN Sandman or Kingswood Sandman.
I don't have the same info as yet for HX, but the info I have for HZ is 7/78 and it shows the only optional wheel on HZ HOLDEN is the N66 (GTS) rim, only on ute and van (not on tonner) and standard on Sandman. So I assume that this means the only wheel available once N67 became standard on HZ Sandman was the N67 rim (alloy SL/E style rim). This is not to say a dealer couldn't have fitted optional wheels, these are just what you could order from the factory.

I never said it was a Sandman Byron... I said it was a Holden promotion HX Van.... I posted it to show the optional honeycomb wheels fitted.

My understanding was that special vehicle packages had limited options available to them from the factory and you couldn't delete the standard options on the particular package.... except like decals on Sandman that had a delete option.

I didn't mean you said it was a Sandman, I was just pointing out that it wasn't, although when I read my post I see what you mean. My bad, sorry. In any case I don't think you could option PE1 on HX as you couldn't on HJ and HZ commercials, so I assume HX was the same.

You are correct about special vehicle packages. The only real factory options were driveline and colour. Most of the stuff Sandman got was the most popular factory options on base models anyway like GTS dash, GTS rims, buckets, console shift etc. The rest were dealer fitment like mudflaps etc. As stripes were dealer fitment it's not really a factory option to delete them, but a bit of a special case, probably the only one of it's kind I can think of. When you read the special vehicle packages documentation some stuff is pretty wierd, and you realise how much stuff is actually dealer fitment.
