This is the first one I have seen of the 220kph speedos of the ugly type with both kmp and the yellow mph.
I have a couple of these 200kph ones which look to be a sticker over the origional face. Where these a mod of the day or released as the interum factory one?

The yellow stickered speedos are aftermarket installations.
Factory fitted Mph/Kph speedos had all white print and the smaller Kph was in the same font style. I have a couple of these speedos somewhere in my stash.

I guess you cant use the promo pictures as a definitive guide as they could of been a pre-release vehicle. Being that HQ's used the differnet speedos with the GTS guages in different senarios I guess it could be plant specific.
One plant may go by the rule that only GTS coupes and GTS/4's got the 220 with the GTS dash and another plant added the Sandman to that list. Kingies and Statos got the Std speedo and interestingly the SS based on a Belmont used it as well. Byron has ordering procedures that state the 220 was to be used, owners of sandman's in the eighties have said that theirs have had both...
Steve1975 has an origional HQ Sandman and all the guages date the same with the 220. Probablly was right. (Although all 200/220kmh only speedos would date similar)
My van was ratted of the dash and had an early one. I'm going to put the 220kmp in my rebuild as I like the fact the needle looks the same.. haha

Just to confuse the matter a little. I provided the HQ Sandman production sheet to the forum and it does appear to indicate a 220/140 speedo however the van had a 200/125 speedo in it from the factory. I recall my mate had a HQ GTS Monaro at the same time and he had the 220/140 speedo. I did not. Go figure?!
Also, the HQ Sandman brochure also shows the wrong motor - it is an earlier version than was installed in 1974.
haha here is where the confusion is.... a couple of origional owners have said that they had the 200kph and some had the 220kph.
This could be attributed to plant differences or even shift errors I guess. I remember you saying you brought the vehicle off the floor and didnt order it. You wouldn't of known it was supposed to have it when you picked it up from the yard. The build sheets clearly say it should of had a 220kph speedo like your mates GTS.
Hope the sneaky dealer didnt swap it to put in his streach belmont... haha
U61 GTS Instramentation optioned on vehicles (Belmont, Kingy, Prem, Stato etc) only recieved the 200Kph speedo. Supposedly those 220/140 speedo were limited to GTS coupe, GTS/4 and Sandman vehicles, I think.
Thanks for sharing that, definitly good to know.
