Console ashtray blank off wouldn't be too hard to make and weld in if you have an old damaged console you could cut a piece from.
I think this is a picture on one on a brown hq console. Greg could prob confirm if this is the right one.

I have another short green hq console that's kicking around but its complete... broken HQ consoles are hard to find..lol

Mine is a black console but I could paint the plate. It needs to clip on somehow so you could access the rear mount sqrews.

Not hard to find broken ones, I saw five of them at the wreckers in Geelong. You could cut a panel out of any console, even a seat seperator would do..... problem is finding one cheap enough to cut up....

On another note.... I've finished four GTS dash fascia restorations.... look great now with the silver border and new badges fitted to the HZ ones. One HJ, one HX and two HZ.

    Going great guns Absinth,
I'll have to get my arse into gear.
With the silver outline around the dash facia was that originally silver or chrome?

I know that a class does something.

I just found in the HZ features manual that HZ GTS and Sandman have the same fascia, called "Black Brushed Chrome". Only thing that is odd is Sandman is listed as having V5U - Instrument Fascia Equipment and it is unique to 70/80 body styles on XX7/XU3 only. I have a feeling it may be just cover plates for radio and intermittent wipers as both of these are standard on GTS. Needs more research, but it is reflected in the parts catalogue as Sandman shows the same original p/n as GTS with type 5 60/70/80 body styles showing 2 x different part numbers for console shift vehicles difference will be for RTS and non-RTS HZ vehicles in commercials).

Hi Byron, thanks for the info. I actually worked it out the other day and posted about it here.....
    http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/s...?t=1162&page=5

Standard black fascia type 5 in console shift came with RTS badge and without badge (just the bump) from what I can work out. They must have stopped making the black chrome ones and black with RTS badge as the part number changed to M38280 in 1980 for all of them ... which is the standard black painted fascia with just the RTS bump.

I did some testing and the black chrome finish is just the standard suede black painted dash with the paint polished on the flat sections.

I thought you had, I just couldn't find the thread. The fascia without the RTS badge is for the HZ commercials with optional non radial tyres. The one they supercede to would probably just be the WB Kingswood ute one.
