I dont think anyone was running 350 chevs down. I was just saying that there are a lot of run of the mill ones about like every other motor.

I don't think so either, just saying my experience thats all.

Would have replied earlier but got called away by daughter to watch Kathryn step out of a car.

They used to call the 253 the bird scarers problably around the time they went into HX's with the pollution gear. I have a 253 in my HZ VAN, bored out to 80 thou, mild cam, 4 speed [m21 I think], 3.08 diff, 4barrel rotcheaster , electronic ignition. The crank, fly wheel, clutch, pistons, & con rods were all balanced. The heads have larger valves than standard & the intake manafold was port matched. It may be a little tall in 1st gear on a hill but if you are carefull with clutch it is ok .Anyway the above combination does it for me it ticks over very nicely & run down the road & passes with ease.Off coarse its no match for a 290 KW BF GT. Thanks guys,

I can see the obvious advantages of making power with the 308 or having good power and economy with the injected 304 but I love the way that the 253 makes power. Its a good little revy engine and I'd like to see what it potential it has.

The theme of my rebuild is, that the modifications could have been offered as an optional extra such as,

    - Duel tanks
    - Duel batteries
    - "High" performance engine option
    - etc...

so its not over the top anyway kinda just wanted my own spin on it

I might try the 286 stroker out, mild cam, a four barrel and better manifold, better zorst and a little head work. hopefully that will keep me happy

    --- Updated ---

Plus I'd like to keep it as original as possible

Where are you getting the stroker crank from? Would love to see the difference it makes!

Is it possible to fit fuel injected heads from a 304 and run the fuel injection on the 253?

    307 pistons in a 253, + bored out gives 292

the blue 253 is by far the best... with the rochester and electronic ignition....
