The GMH model year began in Sept thru August so the J signifies 79 model year.
Nice score with your Sandy
Rare to have an M21 behind the 253

Can you send me photos of the plates?
Something isn't right. This would be the first case of a HJ-WB commercial that i've ever seen with an M21 behind a 253. Even to have a 3.36:1 diff behind a 253 in HZ is rare. My thoughts are it is a mistake, and should be m20 but the 3.36:1 diff throws a bit of a spanner into it too. Another one turned up the other day, with L32 M21 GV7 but it has turned out to be a mistake (should read L31), but it's VIN had a T in it. Yours has an R... Unfortunately it was built after the HZ records finish so we can't look it up:cry:
sorry guys ,my mistake. i am a bit dislexic at times.i checked this twice and still got it wronng
it is :shifty:
L32 M20 gv4
When HX was released GMH put the 3.55 diff as standard behind a 253 M20 to make it feel faster (and to disguise the new lower powered ADR27A 253). Prior to that it was standard as 3.08. GV4 (3.36) was always standard behind 308 M21. 3.36 was optional on all behind 253 M20.
