Advice needed on damaged ute repair

before i specialised in wrecking them i bought damaged utes and tonners and repaired them..lots of them...!!!! i would be very surprised if the rails are rolled in and if they were it would be lucky to be the last 6 inches where theres no support..porta power would fix that....7k.?.tell him he was dreamin...

My question is if the rail was damaged and it was the rail with the chassis number on it, could you cut off that rail end and replace with another, rather than replace the whole chassis, and could you cut out the original chassis number out of the damaged section and weld to new rail,

Re-birthing is where a legit (possibly damaged) vehicles identity is used on another stolen vehicle to make the stolen one look like the legit one.
What was suggested above is you are taking a damaged chassis and replacing the majority of it except the part with the number. No number or identity ever changes vehicles. There is no fraud because nothing with numbers changes.
I read somewhere, here I think, that in some states if a vehicle needs to have the chassis replaced the repairer is to re-stamp the replacement chassis with the old number.

the number just needs to be stamped with a P for Police after putting a different chassis under a car due to breakage...

I would say you would get away with it only because the number hasnt changed on the rego papers, but that is how you change the chassis number on a stolen car so it is rebirthing. Take a legit number and cut it into a stolen chassis and swap the tags and the vehicle is rebirthed.
Why would you do it though? Not much to be gained from keeping a HZ ute matching numbers anyway. A Sandman maybe.

They were stamping blank Chassis' from Holden, not previously stamped chassis'.

Exactly. Lot of work cutting and welding if it makes no difference to the value. Much easier to just slot another Chassis under it.
