the 1200 HQ SS number is the amount of series 1 produced 8/72 + 9/72
then they did a second batch of 1600 10/72 + 11 / 72 to make 2800 total. so i can understand the confusion there...

"All correspondence must bear these numbers"
Other way around, 1600 first type SS, 1200 second type.
Dr Terry's figures will be about the best you'll find anywhere outside of those limited number vehicles I can quote you that have actually been counted off the original records (note, HQ SS are not "limited numbers" for this discussion, i'm talking about vehicles built in the 100's like HJ LS, HQ GTS350 etc).
Were there any HQ ss sedans made in 12/72 as you post only lists 8,9,10,11
The HQ SS was released in 8/72 & the first batch (1600) sold out very quickly. The 2nd batch (1200) began production in 10/72.
1200 cars was a small run for Holden in those days, they were building HQs (in several factories) at around 12,000 per month in total !!
I'm pretty certain that production of HQ SSs was all over before the end of 11/72. I'm happy to be corrected on that point.
Dr Terry
