the pic on ebay looks like a metal roof vent from an escort..i owned a few esky vans and even had one brand new...... back in the 70s no one would have bothered to do a f/glass one if you could get it from another source..
escorts had metal vents which look suspiciously like that one on ebay and the one on your meat truck...
i would say that the company that did the conversions for the meat trucks/paddy wagons got the roof vents from ford as a spare part because it suited there purpose of providing ventilation and it would have been low cost.
aftermarket roof vents for vans in the 70s were generally a scoop type arrangement made from f/glass or a smoked plastic and they had an opening or closing vent..:Chin:
im sure agro would have a pic of an aftermarket roof vent somewhere...

Wouldn't they want the vent facing forward towards the front of the car? Better air flow? I can't understand why these were put on backwards. Could anyone answer this? I agree, this is very much a Holden metal roof vent from an escort. However, I think a specifically designed air vent by GMH would have been a lovely option for the Sandman.

you got it had a close look at mine can bearly make out the part number but looks the identical , also facing backward because when it rained it would get wet ??? mine is three piece top base and centre( cylinder tube ) also think it was there more for removing heat , than adding air flow to rear compartment
