when you are doing a show car money is no object..if your doing a shitter then it has to be cheap..even doing something in between will still cost if you are trying to do something that is popular and is like hens teeth..

consider this to do a show bar from a wb caprice starting with nothing..

core unit..(bar to suit reco bare)..$100.
triple chrome reco to show standard no flaws whatsoever..$750 plus freight to and from melbourne..add say $50..(you can get a bar recoed for between $450 and $550 but ill bet my left nut it will still have linish marks in it)
second hand bar brackets..$50 plus paint or powdercoat..
    bolt kit from rares..$35.
bar rubbers....i had nos ones and was getting $220 per corner..second hand mint are still $125 if you can find them.
bar centre plate holder...$125 if its pitted..will cost $250 to restore plus freight to melbourne and back..another 30 bucks...or $350 for mint second hand..
reality in restorations are a bitch....so $450 to $750 for a mint show type bar is cheap...mind you mint in my eyes is just that coz i do this for a living..and i am super fussy....
so the total for those that dont add up well is around $1500

That's why you wait and find the right car to restore - one that is complete. Saves you a lot of time and money and makes the rebuild a lot easier.

sort of right rolla...what you do is buy cars that have had a mass amount spent on them to a show standard but far outwieghs the value of the vehicle and then you buy them cheaper if you can..buying a restorer thats complete will save you money but you still need to restore it to a show standard or extremely tidy standard....its a catch 22...ask anyone that has done a resto and if you get an honest answer you will find there is a lot of dollars spent..
my wb injected van has had 40k spent before i bought it..over 10k was the running gear...i paid more than the running gear value and ive still spent some more again and i had it valued and accepted the value of 25k for insurance so really its worth somewhere up to that 25k insured value..it is for sale at just under that figure negotiable..

One could argue that although it wasn't done in the Holden factory, the HDT Magnum utes were pretty much the Sandman of the WB range. (Even though there was apparently only 3 made and it was a bit more over the top than what a Sandman would have been.)

Only one was made. It was white with a bench seat and staesman dash. Stroked 5 litre and column auto. The blue was a fake made from a wrecked magnum car.

I keep finding conflicting info on the number of Magnum ute's built. I knew the blue one was a fake but a lot of sites (including HDT and BrockCommodores) state the number as 3, including one with a stroker. Other sites reckon there is 1 that's verified to still exist.

A Magnum panelvan would be kinda cool, especially in the Formula Blue. Maybe Oz should build one out of that windowless WB he got the other day.
