Most kingswoods are generally not Sandmans...is why your HJ is confusing

Like Rodney said, the early HJ ute Sandman can be confusing because of the Kingswood factor. I still don't have my head around it, and probably need to map it out on a napkin to understand it.

Does the kingswood problem make it rare or just confusing

Confusing but not any rarer than a HJ Sandman.

No one knows any total numbers on any sandmans built. Holden just churned them all out as needed.

    Simple answer... No.

Holden did not keep or retain data on builds, they had several manufacturing plants running and the Sandman would be considered to just be another one coming down the line.
IF there were numbers kept and recorded, they would have been with the Sales department of Holden and those records would be moth eaten now (pre computer days).

Do not believe anyone that tells you that a particular model or option is rarer than the other because no one knows. We've heard all sorts of rubbish, but unless they can show you a printed copy from Holden's records it is all guess work.

You cannot even try to make a guesstimate on production but I can tell you something that is 100% true. A Holden Sandman is a unique piece of Australian motoring history, it was a plumbers van/ute that fuelled a sub culture of surf, youth, music and freedom and I don't think we have seen anything like it since.
