I remember talking about this ages ago. If you put a V8 in 6 car you have effectively stuffed up the GVM. So the increase in GVM is achieved purely through a change in tyres, XX7-XU3. However if you optioned 6 leaf one tonner springs it had no effect on the GVM. Makes sense...... not.

GVW is set so that cars have designated carrying capacity. This is 15.5cwt for utes, 14.5cwt for vans and 10cwt for those with passenger tyres. 1 x cwt is about 50kg so that gives you 775kg, 725kg and 500kg respectively. The GVW is the weight of the vehicle plus the load, so thet GVW is set to suit. I haven't fully solved the 1800kg v 1860kg in HJ/HX utes yet (I think it is an A/C thing) but one day I will. I now know why reduced GVW was introduced but i'll keep this one for the book (makes no difference to helping ID so a secret I can keep for now).

r u wondering if its a sandman? what other ID do you have off it? .
    1860 Kg a promising start., 308, M21, mint Julip,.

about the only other thing you need is 2 seater cap.
and non brisbane built or it will have XX7 on the body tag

yours can be WM or WN prefix, it appears to be in that build window of belmont and kingwood sandmans

2200kg is just pre sedan tyre availability and for XU3 after that, 6cyl version is 2155kg. After XX7 became the sedan tyred Sandman the picture appears to be 1800kg for HJ and HX 6cyl XX7 ute, 1860kg for HJ, HX and early HZ XX7 V8 ute and 1950kg for later HZ. This is not concrete yet as it is based upon ID collected not GMH documents (except for later HZ).

the 1800 kg is a wierd one. wasn't there a HX sandman ute in Tasmania with build number 14? (believed to be the red brochure car on wharf)AHX00014M? factory 6 cylinder and 1860 kg.

wasn't that 1800 kg HX ute an adelaide built car? maybe it was a factory difference? not based on a change over time....
