Dago, there is nothing wrong with a good argument as long as it is kept civilised. We can learn a lot from them.

Kruiz, your car may very well have all it's original panels and paint but in all honesty it is virtually impossible to tell for sure. My cousins used to do all the repair work for a well known Holden new car dealership back in the 70's and 80's and the amount of repair work they did on brand new cars damaged in transport was quite amazing. The people picking up their new cars from the dealer had no idea it had been to a panel shop for repairs ranging from touching up stone chips to having bumpers replaced, front guards, door skins (most common repair), rear quarter panels etc repaired or replaced.

I was working there when a brand new VB SL/E Commodore came in needing a new roof skin. A chain had come loose on one of the top cars on the transporter, the driver had slipped while tightening it in the rain and fell on the roof of the car below it.

I also suggest you have a chat to some of your older workmates and get your facts right. The original paint Holden painted their cars with was Dulon acrylic laquer and this paint was readily available from paint shops into the 90's. Dulon was bought out by PPG paints. They will also tell you that a factory paint job back then was pretty ordinary and a good spraypainter in a panel shop could not only match a factory paint finish but do far better.

You may be a panel beater but I will bet any amount of money you like that you could not tell the difference between a factory fitted tailgate and a factory replacement one that was fitted when the car was two, four or even six years old. With a good panelbeater you wouldn't even be able to pick a skin replacement. It is also impossible to tell the difference between paint that has been on a car for 25yrs and paint that has been on a car for 30yrs.....
I may be wrong here but I think PPG still have the Dulon paint in their cataloge as Dulon. I could be wrong here Im going by memory form years ago, the name Deltron also springs to mind...is there anyone that can verify my memory here?

MY HJ GMH genuine parts book states the following...........

    Description....................................... ..Part No.........Qty........Body Style.......M N P Q S T

    PLATE - "HOLDEN" name.......................9933763..........1..... ........70, 80.........X

    PLATE - Engine size name "4.2Litre"........9931459..........1.............. 80..................X

    PLATE - Engine size name "5 Litre"..........9931460..........1.............80. ..................X

    PLATE - "Kingswood" name.....................2814535.........1........ .....80...................X

    CLIP - Name plate retaining....................SP1606..........AR... ........70, 80.........X....X

There is NO reference to a body style M70 ("Holden" Panel Van) having an engine size badge/plate on the back.
There are 2 emblems listed being "4.2 Litre" and "5.0 Litre" engine size badges for Kingswood Coupe Utility (Body style N80) plus the "HOLDEN" centre badge for M80 (same as M70) and a "KINGSWOOD" centre badge for N80.
According to my parts book the engine size badge/plate...whatever...is on the left hand side of the tailgate with the "HOLDEN" badge in the centre. There is nothing listed for the right hand side of the tailgate.

I don't pretend to know all the answers but that is what my GMH parts book tells me. No doubt there were variations from plant to plant and year to year......not to mention deletes and customer "special" orders.
