If you are a panel beater than you should be well aware that it is impossible to tell if a panel is the original one on a 35yr old car. Panels replaced early in a cars life with factory replacement panels are impossible to tell from original as they are prepped and painted to match the cars original colour. Plenty of owners over the years could and probably did change or add badges.

HJ Kingswood Sandman had the Kingswood badge in the middle and the 4.2L or 5.0L badge mostly on the drivers side but I have seen them on the passengers side also... (possibly an assembly plant thing?)

Hows that for a definitive anwser Adam???

Not that elusive, I have been stocking up and have 3... one of which is NOS.. gotta love Ebay

Finding them with both mounting pins not broken off is the hard part......... These were fitted to all HJ-HZ Holden utes and panelvans so there really should be heaps around but like fuel caps a lot of people must have removed them...

YOU ARE CORRECT I AM A PANEL BEATER SO THERE FOR I SHOULD KNOW IF A PANEL IS FACTORY OR NOT . NO ONE CAN REPRODUCE THE SAME PAINT AS FACTORY AS WE CAN NOT BUY THE SAME PRODUCTS AND NOR DO WE GO THROUGH THE SAME PROCEDURE AS FACTORY SO THERE FOR IF YOU KNOW YOUR BUSINESS YOU KNOW WHATS WHAT. but in regards to my question about tail gate badges i do appreciate your input and i thank you.

No need to shout at people. You've got extra holes in your tailgate. Either an extra badge was put on from factory or you have a HZ tailgate with a really good paintjob.

You are obviously young to shout out statements like that. Shouting is rude and I am only trying to help you.... Please don't do it again... I also suggest you have a chat to some of your older workmates and get your facts right. The original paint Holden painted their cars with was Dulon acrylic laquer and this paint was readily available from paint shops into the 90's. Dulon was bought out by PPG paints. They will also tell you that a factory paint job back then was pretty ordinary and a good spraypainter in a panel shop could not only match a factory paint finish but do far better.

You may be a panel beater but I will bet any amount of money you like that you could not tell the difference between a factory fitted tailgate and a factory replacement one that was fitted when the car was two, four or even six years old. With a good panelbeater you wouldn't even be able to pick a skin replacement. It is also impossible to tell the difference between paint that has been on a car for 25yrs and paint that has been on a car for 30yrs.....

i am not as you as you must think, i am 41 and have worked in the family business since i was 15 we have had panel shops for over 40 years and we are now a ppg shop and as you know that means we were a dulon shop before that. my father is 65 and since i bought my parents out i still employ in your words some older trades people, employing several trades people in their fiftys.so with my knowledge and theirs i will back up my statement that this car has all its original panels. but if you think you now more than me feel free to come and prove me wrong. i do not wish to come across as a smart ass but if i dont know what i am talking about i will not make statements at all. i thank you and everyone for their help but do not tell me i do not know what i am talking about when i do and then i will not shout at people. i look forward to your help in the future.

I knew more than the average person about HQ-WB's, especially Sandmans, before I got on this site. Since then I've learned that I knew nothing. Everyone has a right to express their opinions, ideas and knowlege, but can we keep it at that.
This site is not for arguments. Is it a fair call to suggest a dispute thread, only accesible to people involved so it's not aired publicly?
