I've used grease successfully, that shouldn't have blocked anything. Pump may have been stuffed, I recently bought a new "High volume" one and it makes no pressure under 2000 rpm. I'm going to have to replace it.

I have a HV pump too. They reckon they can empty the sump quicker than the oil can drain back down too.

Couple of photos showing where the van is at. It's off getting an exhaust as we speak so we getting closer to road use.

Still working away it. Have added a hidden amp to the centre console that I can plug an Ipod into for a music source. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the underlay and carpet fitted tomorrow and bolt in the rest of the dash. Once that is done it needs a headlining and a once over and it's off for rego.

I had this same issue a few weeks back. On early type blocks that had a timing chain guide you still need to fit the retaining bolts as one of them actually screws into the pick up gallery. It took me a few hours to work out the problem. No need to use a high volume pump at all.
