Do you know what casting/part number it should have on it? I've got carbies left right and centre but wouldn't know what they are off specifically.

The one I'm looking for would have a ball on the throttle shaft to take a cable...not just a hole for a linkage. It would also have the fuel delivery pipe go into the right hand front side of the carby....not centre front like HX etc.

As per my GMH HJ parts book a 5.0ltr manual carby is a 17050641 but I dont know if that is on the carby anywhere. (5.0ltr auto is part number 175050642.)

3/75 isn't the same as HQ. Once HJ got a canister late in 1974 the carby number changed, and it is the same carby for auto and manual. Manual has the vacuum advance connected to a ported vacuum port off a T-piece with the canister from memory, auto vac advance connects to the back of the carb (port has a rubber plug on the manual). I think the carby body number is 7045281. Earlier HJ manual without canister is 7043281 from memory again. I'll check when i'm home.

I'm not after the exact carby for a 3/75.......just one that has the inlet on the r/h side and a cable connection.....and doesn't have stuck butterflies like the one a guy tried to sell me as "good working order" today.

Talking about stuck butterflies, my brothers red wb 4.2 Quadrajet has a nice habit of getting stuck on flat out when you push the accelerator pedal flat to the floor. I nearly stacked it overtaking a car way back when my mate first bought it. When I went to pull back in it just kept cranking at full song. Its happened a few times to me since and now I know if you get your boot under the pedal it will back off. The local dyno guru couldnt get to the bottom of it. So it still does it, not that my brother will ever have any drama with it, as he drives it nicely. That red wb is one fast 253 too just quietly.

I don't know that they are hard to get hold of...I only started looking this week. They dodgey one I got on ebay was $50.00...and now the cash is back in my pocket. If you want "hard to get hold of" go get me a standard, non locking petrol cap.....well actually I have one now, it only took me 12 months.
