Very good chance it is a Sandman.

Also look for Sandman original features like the full roof head lining (welded metal headlining strip above the tailgate door), Wooden backing on the back of each seat, of course the decals (if they're still there). Other stuff to look out for fluted guards, rally rims, sports steering wheel, gts dash, complimentary door lights, bucket seats etc.
Rcknrlla, Courtesy door light switches aren't part of the HJ Sandman package. Backs on bucket seats is standard for all vans. ALl the GTS stuff helps too, however the only one of those that wasn't optional on any van was the guards. If it has the rear headlining side and rear strips, and is a floor shift 2 seater I'd be 99% sure it is a Sandman.
:knockout: Ooops my apologies. I had a feeling the courtesy door lights we're part of another model. As for the backs on bucket seats. Really? I thought someone told me on here that normal panel vans didn't have this? That only Sandmans came with this unique feature. But oh well, cheers for the clear up HK! With that being said, there I break my 300th post. :lifesaver:
It would have been a safety thing. Not too cool getting speared through the back with a bit of cargo a crash.
Always remember that a Sandman is a normal ute or van especially HQ-HJ. There is nothing really special about them, particularly the "normal" Sandman (early XX7 and later on XU3). They were simply a few additional options to turn them into a "sports option", very much like a S-pack ute from VG-VSIII. They got nothing on them that wasn't available or standard on other Holdens (except if stripes and Sandman logos were fitted), possibly only the Sandman horn badge on a HQ might be the exception. HX would be exactly the same too if HX utes and vans didn't have side bump strips like HZ, then the Sandman would be based on a Kingswood and thus would be as little different to the base vehicles as HQ-HJ were. Only HZ with the GTS nose treatment would then be significantly different to the base vehicle.
