so what can i do to the motor to get them to return to the bottom of the screen when turned of?

Have you got the earth stap from the motor body to the fire wall .the return home relies on contacts to the under side of the large cog .I do think the motor would work because it gets it earth via the switching. therefore if the motor is not earthed the return home can not work .that's my take anyway.

Been there done that ok I think there is an short in the motor somewhere ,get another motor or leave the earth strap of and manually try to turn wiper of so they park home oz sell reco ones with concrete warranty .

Rookie question, what wiper motor would a 12/77 hz sandman have originally? Prestite? Lucus?
