Ute spare wheel winch

I am in the middle of making 1 out of 2 spare wheel lowering winch's for my 82 ute. I have one complete and assembled. While testing it on the bench (in the vice) i can make it wind up fine but cant make it lower. It looks like it needs to push inwards to clear the locking teeth.

Am i on the right track? Should it move over and then spring back?

Any help appreciated.

does it need the weight of the spare wheel to make it work in reverse?

I did think of that, but i did have a mate pulling on the buckle to simulate. Maybe just need to fit it all back up and try.

without having one in my hands cant help you much more sorry. You dont need to push them inwards to lower though, they just go down, like a cheap hooker.

When you are winding the winch down I think the inside kind of it turns on a thread and winds back a bit and lessens the pressure on the teeth so they are not as tight but the teeth will still hold or with a little presure will let the tyre down(from menory)

All VG-VZ should be close. Just the bit that holds the wheel will differ a bit.

Just don't use a Toyota Hilux one.

One day you will loose your spare GTS rim.

and the bolt up to chassis is different..but close.

This is a GTS wheel whinch right? Will be a good spare for my wb if not.
