If you consider a car that has the chasis number stamped onto a panel like a Torana SLR5000 for example. When an SLR5000 turns up at the RTA for rego they record the chasis number on the car, not the tag! This means the chasis number is the car not the ID plates. If you turn up at the RTA with a HZ Sandman on a WB Chasis showing the WB Chasis number on the chasis, that chasis number will be recorded not what is on the tags, this is fact!! Therefore the car will be registered as a WB, therefore it will be a WB not a HZ, therefore NOT a HZ Sandman. I have been down this path. :(

1 cent : The "option" Sandman wasn't a recognised "model" by any RTA (as far as I'm aware) neither was Belmont or Kingswood.....they were HQ HJ HX HZ Sedan, Ute, Panel Van, Coupe were they not?

I did ask "were they not?".....but I doubt rego would distiguise "Sandman" or "Premier" or "Statesman" as seperate models. How would, or rather why would, rego know (or want to know) if a HQ van was a Belmont, Kingswood, optioned up Sandman or a van cut down to a ute??

I'm pretty sure "SLR5000" and "A9X" weren't noted on rego papers.....they were simply LH or LX Toranas...or in most cases just year models.....were they not

Hell, even GMH can't tell you what was, or wasn't, a Sandman.

lets say you are the owner of a HZ XX7 tagged L31 M40 van which is original with all the unique sandman identifiers BUT with a WB chassis under it from a previous accident repair.... you now want to sell it..... out of curiosity how would the heading in your evilbay ad read?

that should tell you if identity of the car has changed....

of course its still a sandman... albeit a WB Sandman from an RTA perspective

The add should read; Holden panelvan, XX7 Sandman Tags, WB chassis. The buyer can then decide what its worth.

hey fordman i think the system might be different over in the east to what we have here in the west. hypothetically on a transfer paper under 'model' i would write sandman if i was seller. what the licensing department do with that info is up to them. Im sure they wouldnt change whatever was already in the system. in my experience when they transfer a car all they do is type in the rego, purchase price, new owners name and date.

some people just cant be helped or made 'aware'.. an example

I advertised a WB panelvan and the ad stated 'not a sandman'. that didnt stop someone emailing me asking for photos of the tags so they could verify its sandman authenticity

That is about right. The recent Victorian Civil Court case (see latest Unique Cars) means that you cannot even sell what you believe to be a legitimate vehicle without posing a risk to yourself. If you buy what you think is a Sandman, but the person before you rebuilt it using a replacement body. Then you sell it later as a Sandman. The person who buys it off you then finds out what has happened, YOU will be liable in some cases for false advertising. What you need to do unless you bought it new and have the receipt, is sell it as "appears to be a Sandman" or Holden utility and show the vehicle tags. Never mention that it is a Sandman. This means if you have one with a different chassis you must sell it as a Holden panel van, not as a Sandman. Or say it used to be a Sandman but after a crash the chassis was changed, still wears original Sandman ID plates. Or something like that. Then it isn't false advertising. Thank the Ford idiots for this.
