    Exactly what he is saying. If you put a HZ chassis under a HQ it then becomes a HZ and must comply with all HZ ADR's.

    Just grind the HQ chassis number off the chassis and clean it up. When you go to register it tell them you lost the chassis number while restoring your car and they will issue you with a police number and you will retain the HZ identification of the car. Therefor it will be a HZ Sandman with a change over chassis.

    No different from losing your engine number when you deck the block.... Why do you guys make things so complicated??????? :Chin:

    Pardon my ignorance here ( and please don't get narky at me) but if a HZ Sandman has a police issue chassis, this would remove some of it's "authenticity" would it not, therefore devalue it from the selling price of a matching numbers van with correct chassis????
    Also what happens with the number on the compliance plates that correspond to the correct chassis number???
    BO6 = Rarer then a Sandman

    Incorrect chassis number will always raise question, a police number would mean I would just walk away from it and never return.
    As for grinding off chassis numbers, well that is way out of the realms of what I consider legit. I have two blank RTS chassis here, and considered a few options with them, but in the end the only person I would be fooling was myself.
    Just find the right vehicle to start with, thats how you avoid the hassels.

    It's time I opened my 18 year old bottle of Laphroaig. It always makes thing like this seem peaceful.

    Best thing to do is just fix cars for the love of fixing cars. If you're doing it for the monetary value then you can't have any fun with it.

    Yes, but this whole website is based around HQ-HZ Sandmans. If it was HQ-WB commercials it would make no difference to the numbers. So it is important on this particular site.

    We have a section for Replica Sandman's as well. It can always go in there if the chassis isn't right. What I'm saying is , build it for yourself to enjoy. It all gets a bit serious otherwise. Given this kids skills with welding (and if he does a painting course he'll no doubt be good at that too) he should be able to restore this thing for a very reasonable price, and to him it can still be a Sandman. Don't worry about what some nupty anal retentive collector will give you for it when it's done.
    I've got a HQ coupe sitting in the old house at the farm. It doesn't have it's original chassis. Not sure why but apparently the chassis under it is from a HQ Statesman. Legally that may make the car a HQ Statesman (not sure how far the RTA would go with that and whether they have that chassis no listed as a HQ stato) but it's still a Monaro to me and that's how I'll enjoy it.

    In support of Ozbox's argument I've seen an "Overlander" conversion done on a Patrol chassis. The vehicle was registered as a Nissan Patrol, no mention of Holden at all.

    Gotta agree play! My van has a VIC police number on the engine but it's still My Sandman and I enjoy it for that!
    And yes twotees I have been watching this thread for a while and am starting to get a little worried about the path it has taken in taking the gloss off Myles s find and his enthusiasm for what he clearly is passionate about!
    Maybe blocker can shift the nitty gritty stuff to the appropriate thread that is When is a sandman not a sandman! (poss called something similar) and let Myles have this thread back!
    Just sayin!
