Just grind the HQ chassis number off the chassis and clean it up. When you go to register it tell them you lost the chassis number while restoring your car and they will issue you with a police number and you will retain the HZ identification of the car. Therefor it will be a HZ Sandman with a change over chassis.

No different from losing your engine number when you deck the block.... Why do you guys make things so complicated??????? :Chin:
The problem with this is that the authorities make you put a police chassis number on there in the first place. In cases where the car cant be 100% verified, fair enough, but when a car is smashed or you accidentally grind the number off or you cut it out to put a bigger radiator in as often happens on a torana; then why shouldnt you be able to get your original number restamped??? Its stupid. Ill bet theres a shitload of numbers out there that have been restamped by panel beaters etc. Much easier than going through the RTA and devaluing your car....

But as OZ says though, the chassis is literally what the car is built on, and the importance of the chassis number reflects this...
