Once again I'll steer you back on track.
The statements that we are debating are...
If the chassis has been changed then it is NOT a sandman. (in other words 0% sandman)
its not a Sandman because it takes the ID of the donor chassis including the model designation.
You claim this is all all based on law.
No documents have been produced to provide the evidence to back this up.

Once again I will ask this question
Please answer this questions using your definition....
If a statesman has its chassis swapped it is no longer a Statesman.
    What is it?
What if a chassis is used that has been stored in a shed since 1984 and no one can confirm what it came from.
    What identity will it inherit?

There must be legislation to provide these answers. You claim to be the expert! Put up!

Mook, Sorry if that comes across angry. I'm not Angry. Just frustrated trying to get a logical reply to simple questions.

I was just stirring as i do best. All i can say is read as much as you can from as many different people as possible (if that makes sense). Always best to get a few different points of view with these 'fun' topics. Best of luck

    • the identifying number on the compliance plate does not match the chassis number or the
vehicle identification number (VIN) stamped on the vehicle.

So the vehicle is now considered "vehicle without a compliance plate"

So we go to the vehicles with out compliance plate section.
    Clause 1

    1. Vehicles currently registered in NSW
A vehicle currently registered in NSW and not fitted with a compliance plate can continue to be
    registered providing it remains roadworthy.

As you can clearly see nowhere is an identity swap required. It simply states The vehicle can continue to be registered and the vehicle has no valid compliance plate.
    .
Oh gawd, I swore I wasn't going to wade into this.
But you just sumed it up "the vehicle has no valid compliance plate" in that the only thing calling it a sandman, on the car with a swaped chasis is the compliance plate. In this instance the compliance plate in invalid (ie, this is no longer relevent to this car). So if the compliance plate is no longer vaild, it's no longer the car on the compliance place, so it's no longer a sandman.

No-one said anything about it not being able to be registered, of course you can, it's just not registered as the original car as it is no longer the original car.

TooTees, whatever we're calling it, your van when restored will be great and you'll love it if your threads on fixing tailgates are anything to go buy.

I think from now on, whenever someone feels like replying to this thread they should go imediatly to the shed and do an hours work on their van as penance, I can't see any new information coming to light. I've just come from the shed so I'm excused...

I have always believed that you should never start with the "i'm never going to sell it" idea, always keep in mind that one day you might have to. Same as a house. Wives leave. Blokes cheat. People get sick. Shit happens. This is why you'll never see me spending big bucks personalising a car that looks like crap to 75% of people. Not talking about ugly fibreglass kits on VN Commodores, but $60k spend uglying up a Gemini and making it a foul colour. I'll always spend money making a car look as original as possible with only unboltable mods in a colour that pleases at least 50% of the population, or the original colour. I always do the same with a house, ie no blue roofs, purple bathrooms, no painted render etc. Sandstock bricks, colourbond roof, timber floors, neutral colours, quality appliances. Just my philosophy anyway![/QUOTE]

nicely put. i see it daily in property and cars. neat original always pulls the $$$

no ..you are the one that have said i am an expert... i dont consider myself an expert nor call myself that at any time..i do believe however that i have a greater knowledge and understanding of these cars and of reading the legislations regarding the debate we are having than you do..
i find it very simple to understand and have done all along..
    ...as for putting up?
what would you like me to put up and where should i put it?

Reading all this, and using my special look into the future superpower, Im beginning to wonder if i should have sold my all matching numbers (chassis/comp plate/engine) HZ sandman last year.... Maybe the matching numbers ones are the real collectables of the future as opposed to the better optioned ones...

dont beat yourself up Hainzy... it ALL boils down to who you have on your doorstep on the day and what they want to pay. All of the estimates quoted on this thread are exactly that.. opinions and estimates. Value is determined between the seller and the buyer on the day. Its well possible that someone will pay more for a non-matching #'s optioned 308 with T400 than they would for a matching numbers 253 4-speed
