Could this be a sandman - Chassis swap

well i thought id give the bag of worms another stur up lol, heres a situation for you guys, what if you knew of a sandman locally 20years ago that was stripped and turfed, id plates and all, just the chassie remains,you know it was a sandman, but no way to prove, whats it make it now, even if you put another sandman body and tags back on, is it still a sandman? becasue you cant prove its a sandman chassie???wont it just be a sandman body on a different chassie even if it is a sandman chassie

one thing for sure is that there are some very passionate and knowledgable people on this site about there beloved sandman van and utes,same happens at the torana forum to, but were all GMH lovers sharing a common bond be it monaros, sandmans or toranas and we dont like the idea of your chassis number being wrong and not matching ya tags!!!! to me a car that does not match is worth a shitload of coin less than a full matching car,van,or ute.I think all of you should go out and buy uniqe cars mag for that feature of re chassis, LONG LIVE THE MATCHING NUMBER CARS!!!! and the wanttobe's can forever live in our shadows....

it may be food for thought but it still isnt backing anything you say regarding legal identities...
as a motor dealer i receive stuff from fair trading regarding cars etc....here is a link to the new securities register which clearly states that if you do not use the vin or chassis number you will not get a correct search..it even states that number plate or engine numbers are irrelevent to the search which makes the chassis number the identity..this is an australian government document for the entire country not just one state..POINT is proven...chassis number is the identity of the vehicle..nothing else matters..

I owned a Barbados Green HQ Sandman van at 17. It was a completely original one owner car when I bought it..... was also only a 7 yr old car at the time.

wish i still had it, that arrangement went up s**t creek, and was basiclly told to f off, when old mate found out what it was, in the long run it was a good thing, it was a complete non matching wreck, learnt my leson the hard way

That register looks like a great tool and its good to know that vehicle info can be accessed easily, however, If you were to enter the chassis number from my rego papers posted earlier you will receive a HZ panel van as a return not the HQ doner vehicles identity that was used to repair it. It will only give results from RTA records and any encumberances on it. If the RTA or whoever record a vehicle as being X, then that is what you will get returned, X.

I really don't think I am being understood as to what it is I am actually trying to get across so I will try to explain.

I agree that the chassis number is the identifier for a vehicle pre the ISOVIN that became mandatory in 1989.

What I dissagre with is that the identity originally attached to the doner chassis number is carried over when the chassis is installed into another vehicle, and that this is backed up by law.

What I beleive is when a vehicle is crashed and repaired using a part from another vehicle, that part becomes part of the repaired vehicle.
The numbers/letters stamped on that part now become the identifier for the repaired vehicle. Just as my rego paper show.

If it was black and white law, why would the RTA let you stamp a line through the old chassis number and then stamp your original number next to it? What this says is that the RTA is happy to delete any identity from the doner and attach your identity to it.
