To all those panelbeaters out there!!!

im getting the local panelbeater to weld in the back windows of my 83 wb. he originally said 800 and i was fine with that.

Now after welding in one window he realised its warping the quarterpanels and is asking for another 1000 to fix the warping.

he has over ten years experience so i thought he would of seen this coming.

Is what he is asking for fair enough?

If you ask me it's his mistake. You shouldn't be held accountable for it and need to pay any extra. Just saying.

I'd also take what he's done to someone else who knows how to do it correctly.

Sounds like he is a little out of his league mate! Give him zero cash and go find someone who can do it correctly!
Use the search button on here as there are a few threads about this topic!
Cheers.

Jez go to the top of the forum on the left click Suppliers. On that page go to WA thn Restorations, give A1 a call tell them you found them here. They will sort you out.

unfortunately the damage on that side is done. Take it from him immediately and give it to someone who knows what they are doing. Lots of guys wont weld that entire section as warping is almost inevitable. they put a recessed edge on a replacement panel and then glue and spot weld in place. I had a panel beater of 25 years fill in two of the whirly bird (ex -copper) roof holes in a WB. one came out perfect the other warped to the shit and took a large amount of bog to rectify!!! He charged me a $100 so i didnt have a leg to stand on

Dead right ozbox try the people Blocker wass referring to. Alternativly find an old school beater who knows what they are doing. Take a look in their shop at the sort of work they are doing currently to gauge what they do. Just saying, if it was me I'd be taking the van and saying "you get nothing". Good luck mate!

sounds like he does not have the experiance and has underquoted a bit. let this be a lesson to all ,sometimes the cheapest has a reason for being cheap. i normally use 1.6 sheet to fill the hole welded slowly then lightly tapped up, you can just about file finish it from there.i have used this method dozens of times and it works a treat on infilling big panels.should have some pics in the puta somewhere, ill post some when i find them

You can warp a panel your self for free, why pay someonelse to do it for you?
