We won this yesterday, probably mad too, but haven't been able to get a working one of these for the red van...it says its new and never used, so heres hoping it will make our ooil pressure gauge work now

Hi Jen, good score tho I'm not 100% sure but from memory I think that part number is a HQ one. Someone more cleverer than me on here will set you strait. I remember there used to be two VDO numbers, 360-004 for early holdens (up to HQ) and 360-005 for Hj - HZ UC (again memory). You can usually get the VDO ones from most good auto stores (my local Autobarn, Burstons) for about $80.

Just went and had a look on my cars in the shed ... the oil sender on my HQ GTS has the 7429181 and my HZ Sandman one has part number 9932442. Not sure what the difference is as they both look the same externally. Hope this helps you get the gauge working properly.

It should still work, it just may not give the correct pressure reading ????

Dud sensors or someone has sold you either the wrong oil pressure sensor or an oil sender for a light, rather than a gauge. They work in similar ways as each other (they both switch the power being supplied from the gauge to ground), however an oil pressure sender (light) will be grounded (ie: light "on") with no oil pressure and the oil pressure sensor will ground as the oil pressure increases - which lines up with what you are describing.
