I had a similar problem with my 1973 Landcruiser with an F155 engine years ago. The locknuts on a valve pushrod came loose. Drove it home with smoke billowing everywhere. A mechanic mate of mine told me what to look for, and when I found it I rang him and asked him about clearance gaps etc. He said, "Just make it look like all the others". That was 1996, it's still going.
