I've heard of having the chasis done. Even looked into doing it. Body sure would be different, you'd want to make sure it's free of dents and ripples etc. My understanding is the heat required in the process will destroy any filler. Also you can't just repaint a small section after a repair. You're the expert tho, so I'll leave you to correct me in this.

I do know powder coated bike frames look great in some nice colours too.

If you end up going this way I'd love to have a look later. Maybe we can find a chromer to do a chrome panel van, now that'd be something.

Yeah chassis are being powder coated left right an centre! Like I said it's the most durable finish, if it's done properly! So why wouldn't you! Yeah it would destroy filler. Has to be cures in a 200 degree oven so anything that melts has to be removed! It is harder to repair, ur right. But! It's easy enuff to take of a panel I figure so could just remove what needs to b repaired and painted and bobs ur uncle! We've done a few nas cars and racing frames etc. and we do bike frames nearly everyday! Love the candy colours! Full sandman in candy purple? Oh my! If I can find what I'm after I'm definitely going to powder coat it! And I'll definitely put up pics when it's done! Got a friend who is an amazing air brushed to.... opportunities are endless!! Chrome sandman would be sweet! Probably dangerous to lol. Would b soooooooooo bright!
I like where ur going with that tho! Thinking outside the square! Good stuff!!

If you heat it to 200deg you'll destroy all the seam sealer in the body, and melt the sealer where the panels are adjacent to each other creating moisture traps and rust soon after. I'm not sure what temperature body solder melts at either or if its bond to the steel or behaviour would change at 200degC, would probably distort under the powder coat as it cooled at a different rate to the body steel.

Body solder will b ok and the glue should b fine. 200 degrees was just a general temp. We do different things at different temps. Eg, we do rain water tanks with some glue or cylicone that can withstand the heat. U may b right, I cant say ur not.... at this stage. But I'm confident it can be done

Surely car manufacturers would be powder coating if it was feasible. Still haven't convinced me. Does powder coating actually key into the metal as an etch primer would? To my knowledge and correct me if I am wrong it wraps around the part being powder coated. Much like the plastic coating on old fridge shelves. Once the surface integrity is broken eg stone chip moisture just gets underneath the powder coating and it will eventually lift. Seam sealer also a problem as for a car bog free good luck. I am not sure if the larger flatter panel will warp at 200 degrees. Good luck if you decide to go the powder coating way.

    Cheers Dave
