Whats the best technology step in cars since Sandmans were new?

Cloth interior. At least yadun sweat so bad like ya do on vynil

Cloth trim was around way prior to Sandman, as was leather! Even my '57 Chev had leather trim. You couldn't get either in Sandman though.
