The 3 times I've dealt with them, I've found Shannons to be very good on the phone - I guess it depends on who you get on the day. When I first insured the Brock wagon, there was nothing there for them to work off. It took the guy a bit of extra effort, but they were able to open up a new category listing for it, and insure it for what it is, not just a generic vehicle. At that time I also shifted the house & contents over as well - after he sold me on the tools & parts coverage.

Some time later I phoned them back to add a 6L VE Calais V to the policy as a daily drive, and the fellow I got on the phone asked me if I wanted to increase the agreed value of the Brock, as he thought it was too low for "such a rare Brock with the even rarer stroker option" - I was amazed that he even realised what it was. I commented positively on his knowledge & he told me he was a hot rodder from Adelaide, who had to give up his manual labour job due to an injury, but could easily sit at a desk & work a computer, so he applied for the role & got it. At that time, he told me they were actively seeking car & bike people for thier phone consultant roles, to give the customers a better experience. I guess it worked in my case. The other times I dealt with a hot rodder & modified commodore guy from Canberra (Chris for those who know him) and I've also had a bike fanatic, who understood cars too.

I haven't had to claim, but my father-in-law has had 2 claims with them on the same car - first was a write-off when a kid in an uninsured car turned in front of him (he kept the wreck). He restored it, had it inspected by the Shannons rep, and they were happy to insure it again. A few years later it was totalled on the freeway, and they were happy to pay him out & again he kept the wreck. This time he sold the wreck to a friend who is restoring it (didn't want to test the theory that bad luck comes in 3s). Each time they were great to deal with, understood the passion about the vehicle, and the situation. Payouts were quick & hassle free too. I have had mates in the Brock scene change to other insurance companies, citing savings of $x etc, but I haven't even worried about trying, as Shannon's premiums are very reasonable, and their service (for me & my relatives) has been excellent.

Again - Shannons. Their agreed value suggestion was at the top end of the scale I had in mind - but they explained the cost of replacing things is normally a lot higher than people think, and people who do a lot of resto work themselves tend to under-value the cost of fixing/replacing things.

Back then for me it was $186/yr. The cost would probably depend more on your location & other policies with them, more than the actual agreed value. The premium doesn't vary much when they increase the agreed value - another $15k simply added $30/yr to mine.
