I've had a bad experience with SGIC over my van and will never use them again for anything.
Who ever you use for a classic car I think one of the main things you need to check is salvage rites! company's like SGIC say they give you first buy back rights but it has to leave your possession and go to auction at there discretion and you can pay what the highest bid gets to..
I have my classic cars all through shannons on limited use or extreme limited use.

I agree with Razsandman , salvage is an issue , Insurance companies will try to get the max salvage value that they can. You can imagine the amount of write offs they have each week ,so a few extra bucks per salvage , keeps the shareholders happy!! So check that your existing Insurer will give you "last" option at the salvage. We don't chase car Insurance so there is no hidden agenda here.
The main item that needs to be understood in an Insurance policy is "Duty of Disclosure" , hence you need to tell an Insurance company anything that could affect them insuring you , that would not be otherwise known , and Insurance is usually an annual contract , hence you need to update them each time the Insurance Renewal comes around. Things you don't need to tell them is a previous claim if it was with them , or anything else you may have disclosed to them previously.
I have to admit i do agree that you should tell the Insurance companies all your history (usually the past 5 years) , however i do not agree how they can use a failure of you disclosing information to decline a claim , hence you do have the Dispute Resolution Process (IDR) and from experience the Insurance Council will usually take the side of the client , not the Insurance company , so long as the client has not been sneaky.
If you are still awake after all this , in summary , don't think you are putting one over the Insurance company , it could come back to bite you when you have a claim..
Hope that is some help..

We had a claim rejected when my wife rolled and wrote off her Nissan Pulsar about 8 years ago. It was insured with a cheapo insurance company in her mothers name. She was deemed not at fault by the police officer.
The problem was because it was in her mothers name.
We went to the insurance ombudsman. One mention of this to the insurance company and they paid up straight away.
i could tell you some stories about insurance companies that tried it on me once years ago they thought they were smarter than me
wrong you got to know how to work insurance companies otherwise they will walk all over you
tried quite a few companies but extremely happy with shannons
I met a couple that insure their XC Coupe with Rino Insurance, they were very happy. I contacted Rino (Underwritten by Lloyds of London), got a quote for my cars, All on par with Shannons.
Has anyone heard anything else re Rino Insurance?
Do they offer the same salvage rites as Shannons? if you made a claim and they deem you car a write off, do you have to hand it over?? thats the main thing for me when it comes to an old car. with shannons the wreak always remains yours. some companys will take it away and you have to go to the auction if you want it back.

I have been with Shannons for many many years. Has anyone had dealings with RINO as yet?
