I grew up in the wheat belt of vic. long way from the beach. No surfies where I lived, but I was born in 1970 so was a little kid in the late 70s van craze era. I can remember being in the playground at primary school when a bloke with bell bottoms and a big mostauche pulled in to deliver something in his panel van. A few of us crowded around the back whan he opened it to get a box out. We were awestruck when we saw this velvety shag pile interior with a bar and a TV. It was like the coolest ever mobile lounge room. (We had no idea about the real purpose....) He was one cool dude and let us all look inside. He wasnt a surfer. I must have been about 8 years old. Its something I never forgot and I eventually did up one of my vans kind of like how I remembered it. No bar or TV though... Ha.
