From what I've been told it was an official government request to Holden ...
Although I can't remember their names, I was told by a mate of a mate, who's brothers, mothers sister was a member of parliment back in the day.
Her boss (the main dude) was so concerned that 485000+ HQ's brought soooo much awesomeness to the country that the government felt they had to step in. Everyone who jumped into a HQ saw how cool they were and wanted to buy one. They (the Government) decided that Holden couldn't have the monopoly of the car market and in all fairness of trade asked them (over a few beers one Sunday arvo at the local) to back it off a bit and design something a bit sh!ttier to give Fraud a bit of bit of a chance to get back into the market. The Holden boys obviously had a few more beers and did a handshake deal and agreed ... enter the HJ, nuff said!![]()
