Blowing over the limit

Just thought I would share an embarrassing moment I had on boxing day.
As part of safety at work we are subject to a random breath test before we go through the gate to work each day. As luck seems to have it, I get picked at random every day. It doesn't worry me because i would never turn up to work with any alcohol in my system anyway.
So imagine my shock on boxing day when I blew 0.04!!!!! I had two beers on Christmas morning when I knocked off work and had passed the test the night before and had nothing to drink since.
Turns out the chewing gum in my mouth when I was tested gave the reading. I was sent to the security office and re-tested 15 minutes later and the reading was a more respectable 0.00!
I knew mouth wash or a cigarette could give a reading, but didn't know chewing gum could as well!

A good mate of mine who is now a bass player of note was driving home from a gig. He always carried a short unopened bottle of scotch in the glovebox, this is back in the 80's when bretho's were a bit of a novelty!

One night as luck would have it we got pulled over for a test, knowing he was likely to be over the limit he asked for the bottle cracked it and sculled it in 5 seconds leaving just a sip in his mouth. Officer asked him to blow and Guy swallowed the last drop then blew in the bag! The reading was so high the cop thought his reading was faulty so sent us on our way.

Years ago when i was a smoker i was pulled over for a random breath test ,i was a non drinker ,i registered a small reading and i questioned this ,the copper explained to me that there was alcohol in tobacco .Paul
